I have listened to their music since the seventies. This is a very good collection of Grand Funk music. There 2nd album is probably my favorite overall. They were my favorite band of that time. There are a few other songs I would love to have seen on here as well but it is still very good. I really liked some of the newer songs as well.
The packaging & booklet inside are an extra bonus. It is missing some much wanted songs (Hooked on Love, All the Girls in the World Beware & TNUC) but it is a great set for any Grand Funk fan. What a great compilation of songs. I love the live versions, especially Inside Looking Out (which is about 15 minutes long).
I was very disappointed in their pricing of this 3-disk box set since Barnes & Nobel has the same set for $7 less. I normally depend on Amazon to be the leader in low prices -- particulary in music.
The only disappointment to GFR fans would be the absence of "T.N.U.C." from the band's first album, "On Time". Here you have it: the most complete collection of songs by the only band that ever blew Led Zeppelin off the stage. Personal favorites are "I'm Your Captain", "Loneliness", "Inside Looking Out", "Gimme Shelter", "Sin's a Good Man's Brother", "Heartbreaker", and so many more. Otherwise, however, the anthology has got it all, from the band's early days as "The Pack", to their early hard rock/heavy metal/blues rock work, to when they went commercial and degraded their quality. Presented here is a compiling of all of the band's hits, along with fan favorites and rare cuts, such as a sixteen minute-long live performance of The Animals' "Inside Looking Out". All of Mark Farner's epic intuitive songs, like "I'm Your Captain", "Loneliness", and "Heartbreaker" have been remastered and sound as fresh as ever.
Why this band's body of work (along with Badfinger) continues to be shunned and not taken seriously by the powers that be never ceases to mystify me, and this collection backs up my view (can you hear me, Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame ). Grand Funk has always been a favorite of mine. Highly recommended. Any fan of straight-forward, melodic rock'n'roll should have a copy. What they lacked in their early recordings they made up for with their instinctual soul and groove. They finally hit their stride in the mid 70s and put out some great music.
